Many of us are unhappy with our smiles. We may have crooked teeth, an overbite or spacing issues. As adults, we often think it’s too late to consider fixing these problems. You’ll be happy to know that it’s never too late to achieve the smile you’ve always wanted. While there are a number of options for smile correction, one of the most convenient and effective is Invisalign®.
About Invisalign®
Invisalign® is much different than traditional braces. Instead of using wire to adjust the position of teeth, Invisalign® utilizes a series of clear aligners that are custom made just for you. This means they will fit snugly and comfortably as your teeth adjust into position. These aligners are formed from a clear and smooth plastic that fits right over your teeth to shift your teeth into alignment in a manner that is gradual, as well as gentle. Most people won’t even know you’re wearing Invisalign®.
What to Expect
The first step you’ll take is to have a consultation with your doctor to discuss how Invisalign® works and to determine if you’re a suitable candidate. Once you’ve decided to pursue treatment, you will have x-ray images and impressions of your teeth so that a 3D image can be created from which to design your aligners. The doctor will come up with a treatment plan and will give you an approximate length and progression of care. Typical treatment for adults takes about a year. Once you receive your aligners, you’ll receive instructions and can begin wearing them. You’ll need to wear them all day and night, only taking them out when you eat, drink, brush and floss. They are comfortable and won’t irritate your mouth like traditional braces. You’ll be advised as to when to switch aligners and will have a new straight smile at the end of treatment.
Issues Invisalign® Corrects
Invisalign® can treat a wide variety of dental issues for adults. One of the most common problems seen is overly crowded teeth that lead to crooked teeth, along with decay. Overbite and underbite, which is the top and bottom teeth not meeting evenly, can cause jaw pain and wearing of the teeth. Crossbite occurs when the top and bottom jaw are misaligned, leading some top teeth to bite into the inner edge of lower teeth. Finally, having teeth that are generally crooked is reason to seek correction with Invisalign®.
No matter your age, you don’t have to remain unsatisfied with your smile. Invisalign® Adult can treat a wide number of tooth issues. Contact Runnels Orthodontics today to get started.
