Does Getting Braces Off Hurt?

getting braces off

Of course, after orthodontic treatment, you can’t wait to show off your bright, beautiful smile. But you’re anxious and uncertain about what to expect, especially when it comes to getting braces off. You want to know if it hurts to take them off. It is a common concern for those preparing to kiss those wires, elastics and brackets goodbye.

What are Braces?

Braces are medical appliances designed to correct teeth and jaw problems such as malocclusions or misaligned teeth, bite issues and misaligned jaws. The appliance can be used in children, teens and adults and must be removed once the treatment ends. Whether you have traditional, ceramics, lingual braces or Invisalign® braces, they can be quickly and safely removed at Dr. Scott Runnels Orthodontics in Destin or Inlet Beach.

For the most part, the process of getting braces off will be faster than putting them in and best of all, it is relatively comfortable. It is not like the removal of a tooth. Instead, what is being removed is the adhesive that bonds the teeth to the braces. There may be a slight discomfort throughout the procedure, which has been described as a “tickling” sensation.

Removing the Brackets

The procedure for removing your braces will depend on the type of braces you have in and how it was bonded to your teeth. We can further discuss the details of the process during an appointment at either of our offices, proudly serving clients in Fort Walton Beach, Niceville, Freeport, Miramar Beach, Santa Rosa Beach, Seaside, Rosemary Beach, Panama City Beach, Panama City, and surrounding areas.
