Do Ceramic Braces Stain?

ceramic brace stain

Ceramic braces are great for patients because they are clear and less noticeable, but very effective at improving your smile.

But some patients worry about ceramic braces staining.

Do Ceramic Braces Stain?

Ceramic braces by design are less apt to stain than some other types of braces. That’s because they don’t have the main item which causes other braces to stain – and that’s ligatures.

Ceramic braces staining is less of a concern with self-litigating braces.

It’s normal when you have braces to worry about them and the possible temporary problems braces can bring while they work to make your teeth healthier and more attractive.

Here are some tips regarding ceramic braces that should help:

  • Avoid certain foods: Mustard, curry and tomato-based foods are the top culprits when it comes to staining. If you work to keep your consumption of these foods to a minimum, you are likely to just about eliminate any risk of minor staining.
  • Brush after You Eat: Make it a priority to brush immediately after you eat. That will prevent the food you eat from having the chance to settle in your mouth, which often can lead to ceramic braces staining.
  • Use Mouthwash: Brushing your teeth after you eat is essential, but it’s also very important to remember to rinse with mouthwash. Keep a small bottle of mouthwash in your bag. If you can’t brush immediately after eating, you can still rinse unwanted food particles out of your mouth with mouthwash.
  • Floss: Flossing is great habit to get into. It helps prevent any stains that may form between your teeth. It’s very easy for food and food particles to get lodged in between teeth. That makes daily flossing critical to ensuring that your mouth and teeth remain healthy and stain-free while you undergo orthodontic care.

At first glance, brushing, rinsing with mouthwash and flossing several times per day may appear to be time-consuming hassles. But once you make them part of your routine, they will become second nature and no bother at all.

And remember to keep up with orthodontic appointments. We want to see you and we want to make sure you and your braces are doing well!

When you have braces, orthodontist and patient form a team. And that team has to get together to ensure the best results.

By keeping your appointments with us at Runnels Orthodontics, we can better monitor your treatment and make sure you are on the right path to a great mouth and smile!

So don’t be a stranger. Make your next appointment today. It’s easy – and you will be glad you followed through.
