What Are the Benefits of Metal Braces?

At M. Scott Runnels Orthodontics of Destin, FL, we understand that finding the right type of braces for your unique needs is very important. We’re pleased to offer a range of options so we can effectively help a wide range of patients. Today we’re going to discuss the benefits of Clear metal braces.

What Are the Benefits of Clear Metal Braces?

Strong and Stable

Clear Metal braces are specifically made to be as durable and reliable as possible. Whether you’re looking for mild corrections or have more involved needs, these braces are designed to handle it. Durable braces are also a good call for patients who lead active lifestyles.

If the patient, whether that’s you or your child, enjoys spending a lot of time engaging in physical activities, they’ll want braces that are a good fit for these things. Traditional braces can offer some extra peace of mind as they may be less likely to break or fracture. That said, wearing mouth protection is still a good idea!

Not Too Pricey

If you’re on a budget, clear metal braces could be the way to go. These braces tend to be the most affordable option. The good news is this affordability is paired with effectiveness, meaning these braces make no compromises when it comes to the quality of your results.

A Classic Design

Clear Metal braces are often the “go-to” treatment option, and they have been for decades. There’s a good reason for that; they work. While the design of traditional braces has improved and evolved over time, they have consistently proven themselves effective throughout the generations.

These braces are able to do their job well and are considered one of the most reliable and predictable treatment options out there for misaligned teeth.

They Have Range

While a consultation will help us more accurately determine if this treatment is a good fit for you, traditional braces can handle a wide range of dental issues. These issues include:

  • Crossbites
  • Overbites
  • Underbites
  • Tooth gaps
  • Misalignment
  • Crowded teeth
  • Protruding teeth

Due to their strength and streamlined design, traditional braces are used to take on jobs that some other braces may not be able to handle.

Good for Kids

These braces can work for patients of all ages but can be an especially good option for younger patients. Kids are often involved in active hobbies like sports, where sturdy braces can be a real benefit. Kids are also less likely to be bothered by the appearance of braces. They often see their peers getting braces, and may even find it exciting to customize their braces with different elastics.

They Work Quickly

These braces don’t play around when it comes to getting the job done. How long you’ll spend in your braces depends on the level of correction you need. That said, with these strong braces hard at work, you can be assured that your results will be delivered as quickly as possible.

Some patients with more minor corrections may be able to finish their treatment within a year, while others need longer. In the end, once your treatment is complete, you’ll be able to enjoy a lifetime of benefits with your new and improved smile.

They Stay Secure

Clear aligners can be an excellent treatment option, and it’s one we’re pleased to offer here. That said, there is a benefit that braces offer that clear aligners can’t. Since clear aligners can be removed, that means they can also be lost. If you live in a busy and hectic household or have young kids and pets, the risk of losing your aligners may be a headache you don’t need in your life.

Similarly, if you’re looking for a treatment for your young kid and you’re not confident they’ll always remember where they put their aligners, braces may be the right call. You never have to worry about losing your braces or making sure you wear them for a long enough time. Braces are always hard at work behind the scenes as they correct your smile.

Improved Dental Health

It’s very common to have patients seek out braces for cosmetic reasons, but did you know that correcting misaligned teeth can also offer health benefits? Misaligned teeth can be challenging to get clean, both at home and even professionally. These teeth often have areas where they overlap or are packed tightly. That creates areas that are nearly impossible to reach with a toothbrush or floss.

All of this means misaligned teeth can leave a patient more at risk for future tooth and gum issues. Once these teeth are straightened out, it should be much easier to keep them clean and healthy. It even makes it easier for the dentist to fit you with crowns and fillings.

Better Future Comfort

Correcting misaligned teeth can help you enjoy better comfort levels in the future. One way misaligned teeth can be problematic is due to mouth injury. If you have protruding teeth, you could be at more risk of a lip injury during physical activities. Misaligned teeth can also contribute to jaw pain due to muscle strain. This can cause a domino effect of headaches and trouble getting enough sleep.

Misaligned teeth are more likely to get worse over time, rather than get better. So, if you know there’s an issue you want to correct, it’s a good idea to get your treatment started as soon as possible. This could potentially save you time and money over the long run, as delaying treatment could lead to more costly dental treatments down the road.

Boost Your Confidence

If you’re unhappy with your smile, having your tooth concerns corrected can help you smile with confidence. We want all of our patients to feel excited about their treatment options, and leave our office encouraged for the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How Do Traditional Braces Work?

The brackets are attached to your teeth with dental glue. This glue is safe and keeps the brackets extremely secure. Once the brackets are in place, we can connect the archwires. These will gradually guide your teeth into a more correct position throughout your treatment process. Elastics may be used to help apply additional corrective power to the parts of your smile that need it.

Once your treatment is complete, wearing a retainer at night will help protect your results and “remind” your teeth of where they should be. A more personalized timeline and instructions will be available for you once we know what your needs are.

2. How Long Will I Wear Retainers After Braces?

Retainers are an important part of protecting your new smile once your braces come off. Having a good retainer can ensure your teeth don’t try to migrate back to their original position. It helps “train” your teeth to accept their new positions and to stay put.

Some patients benefit from wearing their retainers full time for around three months. Most patients can then transition to only having to wear their retainers at night.

3. How Do Metal Braces Compare to Other Braces?

We’ve gone over many of the benefits traditional braces can offer, but our team does offer different braces as well. Since each person and their situation is unique, we know offering a range of treatments can help give our patients the best chance of finding the right fit.

Our different options all have different benefits. If you’re not sure which one is the right call for you, our team would be happy to give you their input based on what you’re looking for.

Ceramic Braces

Want braces that blend right in with your teeth? Our Clarity ceramic braces are completely translucent and resistant to stains. These brackets make your braces less noticeable and can be a great option for adults who don’t want to feel self-conscious about their braces at work.

Lingual Braces

Ceramic braces can make your treatment more discreet, but what if you didn’t have to see your braces at all? Rather than being attached to the outside of your teeth, lingual braces are hidden by being attached to the back of your teeth. This can be the ultimate option for patients who want to smile with complete confidence while their braces are hidden and hard at work.

Invisalign

Invisalign offers an alternative to braces altogether. These clear aligners slip over your teeth, and you’ll wear each set for several weeks. As you progress through your treatment, your teeth will be gently and gradually nudged into a more correct position.
