Reasons to Get Traditional Braces

When it comes to orthodontic treatment, you have many options to correct problems with your bite, the alignment of your teeth, and spacing. Invisalign®, braces worn behind your teeth and ceramic braces are only a few of the innovations in the field of orthodontics. However, traditional braces are still the most common and effective form of orthodontic treatment that is used for all ages to achieve that amazing smile.

Realigning Teeth
When you have traditional braces, brackets are mounted to your teeth and wires are threaded through the brackets. Rubber bands are often used as well to apply tension. The end result is a slow shifting of your teeth into the proper position. While methods such as Invisalign® can correct minor issues with your teeth, you will need traditional braces for severe problems that involve your bite, problems with your jaw, or severe crowding or misalignments. When you braces are removed, it will all be worth it when you can’t stop the urge to flash your pearly whites.

Take Care of Speech Problems
Your teeth may be getting in the way of how you speak. In some cases, changes may occur to your bite or palate as you get older, causing your teeth to shift in such a way that your words are not formed as clearly as they once were. Regardless of when or why your teeth have hindered your ability to speak, braces can correct the problem.

Avoid Health Issues When You Get Braces
An improper bite or misaligned teeth can lead to big problems with your health. Sleep apnea, in which your airway is obstructed while you sleep, is often tied to orthodontic problems. When you get traditional braces to correct your bite and the position of your teeth, you can open up your airway while you are sleeping. You can also steer clear of TMJ disorders that cause a great deal of strain to your jaw, resulting in discomfort.
