Invisalign Adult: It’s Never Too Late for Straight Teeth

Whether you had braces as a child and your teeth have moved over time or if you never had the opportunity to correct your teeth at all, it isn’t too late to straighten your smile. Invisalign is a discreet, comfortable alternative to traditional braces that can improve your dental appearance at any age.

Invisalign: The Basics

If you grew up in the latter decades of the 20th century, you are probably familiar with traditional metal braces. About every six weeks, the kids in your class with braces would have a fancy new color on them. Braces straighten teeth out using metal brackets and wire that are manipulated in increments to move teeth into an ideal position. Invisalign is just a different type of braces for the teeth. As the name suggests, these braces are nearly invisible to the naked eye.

Invisalign and Comfort Level

Some adults choose to avoid the orthodontist because they are aware that their teeth are crooked, but they do not want visible metal in their mouths. Many adults do not like the appearance of braces. For this reason, many adults opt for the hidden effects of Invisalign. In addition to knowing that their teeth are being gradually straightened, many adults are more at ease in social situations or at work using this system.

Invisalign and Professionalism

Back in school, no one would judge a person’s professionalism based on whether or not the individual had braces. When little brackets of metal are imposed upon the teeth, it can be difficult to feel professional. Adults may worry that they appear childish or immature, or they may think that traditional braces look too casual. As a result, they can begin to fear the interview process or coworker interactions. In some cases, braces can cause mild speech impediments that further reduce professional performance in speeches or presentations, which can lead to self-confidence issues.

Invisalign and Building Confidence

Invisalign braces give adults the confidence that they need to succeed in the professional environment. Even if people aren’t judging them for their braces, simply feeling that way can cause individuals to underperform at a job or to avoid taking advantage of opportunities that make them more visible.

Boosting confidence is also a major part of the end goal of Invisalign. Instead of constantly having to walk around with crooked teeth or metal braces, adults who undergo the Invisalign process are able to flaunt a smile proudly that matches with the rest of their appearance and personalities.

While Invisalign is a great alternative for many adults, it is not for everyone. Depending on individual conditions and whether the bite is affected, alternative treatments may be better suited for your particular needs.
