What is a Carriere Distalizer?

A Carriere Distalizer is an appliance that is attached to the teeth for orthodontic treatment. It is used to gradually shift the teeth into the proper position to correct a misaligned bite. Most often, orthodontists will use this appliance as part of an orthodontic treatment plan before braces are attached to a patient’s teeth. When used in combination with a complete treatment plan, the Carriere Distalizer makes it possible for a patient to have properly aligned teeth and a beautiful smile.

Why Use the Carriere Distalizer?

In the past, patients would have worn a bulky piece of headgear in order to shift an improper bite into place. There is a good chance teeth would be removed as well. With the Carriere Distalizer, a patient can benefit from a gentle, gradual form of treatment that is much more discreet. The appliance is much less noticeable as compared to headgear. It is also means a less invasive form of treatment for patients. If at all possible, our orthodontist wants to spare your teeth. While removal of back molars was common in the past to deal with crowding issues and bite problems, orthodontists will make every effort to leave all of a patient’s teeth intact. The Carriere Distalizer helps to make this possible.

Is the Carriere Distalizer Right for You?

In most cases, the Carriere Distalizer is used when there is a problem with the upper bite. If you are struggling with a misaligned bite and you also have issues with crowding, our orthodontist may recommend this form of treatment. If you don’t want headgear, you need to make that clear to our orthodontist so that you can explore all of your options. You may still be concerned that the appliance is noticeable, but you need to remember your goal in the end. When your orthodontic treatment plan is complete, you will have a beautiful set of straight teeth. Our orthodontist will guide you in the right direction to properly aligned teeth and a corrected bite.
