Braces and Self-Confidence

If you have ever had crooked teeth, or know someone who did, you will know how embarrassing they can be. One of the main effects of this problem is having a tendency to not smile or to keep the mouth closed while smiling. Not only does this wear on the self-esteem of the person who does it, but it gives a very distinct image to other people as well. Someone who will rarely smile or not smile broadly may be seen as cold or unfriendly. Before this situation happens to a child or gets worse when you become an adult, getting braces can help to curb this tendency.

A Better First Impression

When you can smile as much as you like and do not try to keep teeth hidden, it makes a better first impression on the people you meet. This is important when you attend job interviews, take part in work projects, meet the neighbors and more. It’s always better to be able to project a friendly image and not have to suffer from embarrassment during any of these situations.

Having a pronounced overbite or underbite can do the same harm to your self-esteem as having crooked teeth. And when your teeth have not been treated for these common dental problems, the impression others get may be that you don’t take care of yourself well. Getting orthodontic treatment may not be what every teen or adult wants, but the benefits last far longer than the time the braces were on.

Someone who feels that they have to hide such a prominent feature may not just refrain from smiling – they may begin to avoid social situations. They may not seek out a better job because of their embarrassment. To keep your children’s options, or your own options, open, straight teeth are a necessity in today’s world.

An Instant Confidence Booster

Giving your child braces is one of the best ways you can provide them with self-confidence later. A perfect smile will be bright, friendly and memorable to everyone your child meets.
